Monastery of the world

Founded almost 1000 years ago. Constantly providing impulses for the region: Admont Abbey.

Impressions of the monastery

In 1074, Benedictine monks from Salzburg founded their own abbey in Admont, Styria. Although it has changed several times over the centuries, it still stands in the same place. Visible from far away, surrounded by high mountains and frequented by around 80,000 visitors every year due to its unique book collection and museums.

The Admont Abbey Library, 70 meters long and the largest monastic book hall in the world, is undoubtedly the main attraction with its colorful ceiling frescoes, wooden sculptures and golden busts. However, a multimedia presentation of the monastery and the Museum of Contemporary Art are also impressive on site.

Abbot Mag. Gerhard Hafner
